The South Central Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and the
University of New Mexico cordially invite you to participate in the
annual meeting of the Society in Santa Fe, New Mexico from February 26
to February 29, 2004. The general theme of the meeting will be "The
Worlds of the Eighteenth Century."
The meeting will be held in the highly-regarded Eldorado Hotel in Santa
Fe, only steps from the Santa Fe Plaza and convenient to the Georgia
O'Keefe and other world-class museums. Santa Fe is also famed for its
fine dining, its excellent shops and galleries, and especially its
beauty and ambiance. It lives up to its Chamber of Commerce's boast
that it is "the city different." The end of the Santa Fe Trail has an
unmatched cultural mix of Native American, Hispanic, and "Anglo" which
is ready to be enjoyed by the visitor, and the meeting promises to be a
rich cultural mix in and of itself.
We further invite you to browse the preliminary list of sessions
currently planned for the meeting. If you are
interested in presenting a paper, please contact one of the session
conveners whose name and address (usually including email) appears in
the list. If you have an idea for a paper which does not seem to fit
into any of the sessions on the list, please send a brief abstract to
one of the co-presidents, Connie C. Thorson (email thorson@unm.edu) or
James L. (Jim) Thorson (email jthorson@unm.edu). We will find an
appropriate group to welcome your paper.
There may well be room on the program for some additional panels. The
conveners will be glad to consider submissions of full panels,
roundtables
or other sessions. Please contact one of them with your ideas.
The SCSECS has a history of some thirty years of providing stimulating
intellectual meetings in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition to the
panels
there will be plenary presentations by Professor Louise K. Barnett of
Rutgers University and Professor Clement Hawes of Pennsylvania State
University, receptions, the annual luncheon, and many other events.
There
will also be ample time to enjoy the many pleasures of The Eldorado and
of
Santa Fe.
